Robert Geans
Success Story
Eighty-two-year-old Robert Geans from Edwardsburg, Michigan, is a retired concrete contractor and bishop at his church. Active in Bible studies and ministry work, Robert’s life took an unexpected turn when he suffered cardiac arrest while dining at a restaurant. The restaurant staff quickly administered CPR until emergency responders arrived.
After being stabilized at the hospital, Robert was placed on a ventilator and eventually transferred to Rehabilitation Hospital of Northern Indiana (RHNI). He chose the facility based on a recommendation from his hospital liaison and its proximity to his home.
Upon arrival, Robert required assistance with several aspects of daily living, including walking, swallowing, and cognitive functions. The dedicated team at RHNI provided specialized rehabilitation tailored to his needs. Robert’s treatment plan included physical therapy to regain strength and mobility, cognitive therapy to address memory issues, and speech therapy to provide support for swallowing difficulties.
In just two weeks, Robert made significant strides in his recovery. His progress was marked by improvements in his ability to walk and increased independence in daily activities.
Robert is grateful for the care he received and praises the nurses, patient care technicians, and kitchen staff, noting, “All the staff are wonderful.” Robert now looks forward to returning home and resuming his normal routine.
